Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Calihand (calihand.com) is a website for practising handwriting. For anything about this policy or your data, write to mail@calihand.com.

2. What we collect

  • Account: your email address and password. The password is stored only as a one-way hash, so nobody, including us, can read it.
  • Profile: a username, name, phone number or date of birth, only if you choose to add them.
  • Children's profiles: a parent who adds a child enters the child's name and, if they wish, a date of birth. A teacher enters only a first name and the first letter of the surname; the full surname is never stored.
  • Handwriting: the photos and drawings of handwriting you upload, and the scores they receive.
  • Learning progress: the courses you take and the exercises you complete.
  • Visits: the pages opened, the browser type and the page that sent you. We do not store IP addresses: to count unique visitors we keep only a keyed hash of the address and the browser string.

We do not take payment card details.

3. Signing in with Google

If you choose “Continue with Google”, Google gives us your email address, whether Google has verified it, and an identifier for your Google account that stays the same each time you sign in. We ask for nothing else: not your name or photo, not your contacts, and no access to Gmail, Drive or any other Google service.

We use this information only to create your Calihand account, to sign you in, and to send you emails about your account, such as confirmation and password messages. We do not keep any access or refresh tokens from Google, so Calihand cannot act in your Google account.

Calihand's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

4. How we use information

Only to run the features of the site: your account, handwriting practice and scoring, courses and progress, classes for teachers and parents, emails about your account, and keeping the site secure.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use it for advertising. We do not use it, or anything received from Google, to train artificial intelligence models.

5. Who we share it with

Only with services that run the site for us, and only what each one needs:

  • Hosting provider: runs our servers, database and file storage, and so holds all of the data above.
  • Email delivery service: receives your address and the text of each email we send you.
  • AI service (Anthropic): receives the images of handwriting to be scored, without your name or email address. Under its terms for business customers, Anthropic does not train its models on this data.
  • Error monitoring: receives technical reports when something breaks, set up not to include personal data.

Information from Google goes only to the hosting provider and the email delivery service. We disclose data to authorities only when the law requires it.

6. How we protect it

  • Every connection to the site is encrypted (HTTPS), and browsers are told never to connect without it.
  • The database cannot be reached from the internet, only by the site's own servers.
  • Uploaded files are kept in private storage and opened through links that expire.
  • Sign-in cookies cannot be read by scripts on the page and are sent only over HTTPS.
  • Only the people who run Calihand have access to the servers and the data.
  • The database is backed up every night; backups are kept in private storage for up to 90 days.

If we learn that your data has been exposed, we will tell you by email without undue delay, say what happened and what we are doing about it, and inform the authorities where the law requires.

7. How long we keep it, and how to delete it

We keep your data while your account exists. You can delete the account yourself on the Delete account page: this removes your profile, handwriting, scores, progress and the children's profiles you added at once, and the copies in backups within 90 days. A teacher whose classes or courses hold other people's work writes to us instead, so the students' work is not lost by accident.

You can also remove Calihand's access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Your Calihand account then stays, and you can still sign in with a password set through “Forgot password?”.

8. Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, or to stop processing it, by writing to mail@calihand.com.

9. Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, we publish the new version here and update the date below. If a change affects how we use your data, we will email you before it takes effect.
